About being a real badass
I hope you are enjoying your weekend so far.
This is my first weekend posting on the blog. After the unexpected popularity of my latest blog post, I am quite excited about posting twice a week, and I look forward to do this more often. Let’s give it a try and see if we can make it work together, you and I.
Recently, I found myself reading “You are an awesome badass” by Jen Sincero, for the third time. Before you start judging me by the title of the book, I would like to clarify the below:
- This book is a New York Times bestseller
- This was a Christmas present
- This was the best present anyone could give me on Christmas day
- Yes, I am aware Christmas is far far away in the calendar
After reading this book, all of a sudden all of those inspirational TEDx talks I would watch before kicking off Mind the Shoes made perfect sense and all life puzzle pieces fell into place. That moment reminded me very much of Sophia Amoruso, founder and owner of Nasty Gal, when she stated out loud “I think I just figured life out” right before she decided to kick off her business.
You –really– cannot imagine in what ways our brains can trick us to stay in a “safe” area, where everything is familiar, rather than jumping blindly into the unknown in order to turn our lives upside down for good.
Even when we try new experiences, everything will go wrong at the beginning. Our brain will try its very best to either spoil our life changing plans or make us believe whatever it is that you’re trying to make your life better –or yourself happier– is not worth the try. Everything will start going wrong. You will not believe how far and how creative your brain can be when it comes to making up excuses and fears in order to not try that new life changing experience. (I feel Will Smith perfectly illustrates this on his speech about skydiving, which you can find here.)
I’ve learnt a little bit about the meaning of breaking out of my comfort zone when I moved to London without knowing a single soul in this city, about two and a half years ago. I am aware there will be times where I will take a blind leap of faith in life and things won’t work out. But I assure you most of the times, it’s taken me to a good place. No matter how scary it is to try something new, it has been worth the try most of the times. And it surely pushed me to live my life the fullest, with no regrets.
Now, I want us all to bring out badassiest side out this week. I would like to invite you, who are reading this post, to try something new (scary if possible) this week and let me know in private what is it that you decided to try and how did it feel to get out of your safe place. I would very much like to know.
I wish you have a happy Sunday funday!
Many thanks for reading me
